Award winning building

As part of a major master plan to consolidate seven campuses to two, MMU Business School relocated to its brand new building in autumn 2012.

The building

As well as being a stunning addition to Manchester’s contemporary cityscape, the Business School has strong environmental credentials. Designed by award-winning sustainable architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, it has been constructed to the highest standards of energy efficiency and sustainable development currently achievable.

The Business School

Our commitment to environmental sustainability is underpinned by the building being considered for the certification of 'Excellent' under the BREEAM environmental assessment scheme.

Key features include:

  • Bore holes that provide the building with natural/untreated water that is used to cool or heat the building
  • Rooms are illuminated with energy efficient, daylight sensitive and proximity controlled lighting
  • Restrooms that use low water appliances and the toilets are flushed with ‘grey’ (untreated) water
  • Recycling stations positioned throughout the building enable staff and students to recycle as much waste as possible
  • Sourcing, where possible, materials and products from local manufacturers to reduce the impact of transporting goods
  • Choosing products with zero ozone depletion potential and zero global warming potential
  • Avoiding, where possible, the use of products that emit toxic substances in their manufacture
