The Centre for People and Performance (CPP) is a research centre at Manchester Metropolitan University with a focus on people at work and the organisations they work for.

We have a track record of conducting nationally and internationally recognised academic research, successfully delivering large funded research projects, and delivering consultancy projects for organisational clients. We also support a thriving community of PhD students in the field of work and employment.

We are one of the largest centres of our kind in the UK, and our members’ interests encompass the broad fields of human resource management, employment relations and organisational behaviour. Our title reflects the contemporary view that effective management of people is associated with enhanced organisational performance, but the focus of our work also embraces the perspective that the experience of people at work is an important area of study in its own right.

Our researchers work at the cutting-edge of the field with extensive links to partner research institutions, professional bodies, and associations from around the world.

These relationships enable us to combine both academic expertise and practitioner experience, which supports the delivery of both effective and pragmatic solutions to an array of issues many organisations are facing.

An important part of our mission is to educate and support the next generation of researchers through the provision of high-quality doctoral training in people and performance management. Learn more about doing your PhD with us.


We design and deliver bespoke solutions to challenges regarding people management within your business, offering a full range of investigatory services either on a standalone or combined basis. Examples might include conducting interview programmes, holding focus groups and undertaking surveys.

Our analyses will provide you with evidence-based reports and recommendations in a format you can use to enhance the organisational practice within your business, without the need for costly and unnecessary solution tools.
