A very warm welcome to the Centre for Professional Personnel and Development (CPPD). The Centre has been set up to provide a focus for Manchester Metropolitan University Business School’s engagement with HR professionals, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and organisations and the individuals within them who are involved with the management, leadership and development of people. We aim to reach people and organisations not just in the North West but nationally and internationally as well.
Our links with personnel professionals and the professional body span over 60 years and during that time we have developed a portfolio of activities which provide learning, development and networking opportunities for HR and related professionals at all levels.
In addition to nationally recognised qualification programmes for individual learners or corporate clients, our portfolio includes CPD activities, seminars and conferences and short courses, one to one coaching, research partnerships in HRM/HRD and related fields as well as consultancy. The coordination of our activities through one Centre, enables HR professionals and other individuals with responsibility for the management of people to make better use of our resources both formally and informally. We hope it will provide them with access to a very wide range of people management knowledge and skills which will both enhance their personal development and their organisation’s effectiveness.
The Centre and the staff that are associated with it work at the leading edge of continuing professional development, research and teaching of all aspects of applied people management.
Whether you are one of our HR alumnae or someone looking to engage with us for the first time I do hope you will find something of interest and of relevance to your needs on the pages that follow. Please take the opportunity to sign up to our email alert and related information service and join us at one of our forthcoming events.

The future can be a very tricky topic especially when considering what will or will not happen. So when David Fairhurst, Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer for McDonald’s returned to his former university and asked a selection of MMU Human Resource students to predict the trends in HR of 2008, we jumped at the chance.

Mr David Fairhurst, Chair of CPPD, was made a Doctor of Business Administration for his outstanding contribution to human resource management and for his continuing involvement, support and encouragement to students and staff within the Business School.'
