A fundamental fixture in the Business School, the Management Department is renowned both nationally and internationally for fostering links with commerce and industry. The Department’s expertise spans the spheres of Strategy, International Business, Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, alongside the more specialist subjects of Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour and Sports Management.
The staff mix of academic and commercial expertise results in a strong ethos of preparing early career professionals with enterprising and ethical management attributes. The department works closely with the University’s start-up incubator Innospace and the Centre for Enterprise to maximise opportunities for graduates to realise their self-employment ambitions and career-enhancing development.
The Department offers a broad undergraduate portfolio covering courses in general Business Management and Administration, Human Resource Management and Sports Management, in addition to combined honours degrees.
At postgraduate and post-experience level, staff provide academic leadership for Executive programmes which include our Executive MBA and Masters in Sports Directorship. A popular portfolio of MSc courses includes International Business Management, International Human Resource Management, as well as Leadership, Management and Project Management.
Distinctive for its links to business and professional bodies, the Department is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and enjoys close relationships with the Chartered Management Institute. Most recently, relationships have been established with the Institute of Directors and the Institute for Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, meaning course content is acutely linked to the needs of today’s business environment.
Through its research, teaching and consultancy, the Department has established excellent links with other universities and organisations. Staff within the Department have a strong research focus, embedded in the activities of the Centre for International Business and Innovation, Centre for Enterprise and the Centre for People and Performance. Specialist research clusters exist in business of sport and creativity and entrepreneurship within the Centre for Business and Society, demonstrating the wealth of knowledge on offer for students, society and the wider business community
