The Management Department has an excellent national and international reputation for academic and  professional expertise in the areas  of Strategy, International Business, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship together with Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour. 

At undergraduate level the Department is home to the general business management and international business degrees together with the specialist (CIPD approved) HRM and Sports Management and Sports Marketing programmes. At postgraduate and post experience level staff provide academic leadership for the MBA, International Business Management, HRM /International HRM (CIPD approved) and Leadership, Management and Health & Social Care Management. The staff mix of academic expertise and industrial and commercial work experience results in both a strong applied and a critical approach to individuals’ learning and development, which is aimed at enhancing employability for those at the start of their working lives and improving career development opportunities  for those who are already in employment .

The Department  is distinctive for its links to business as well as to  professional bodies, most notably the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management. Management Department staff work  with  large multinational corporations, public sector organisations and  SME’s  as researchers, consultants and  management developers. Through its research, teaching and consultancy the Department has well established links with other universities and organisations nationally and internationally, notably in mainland Europe, Russia and Asia including  China, Vietnam and India. This expertise is embedded in the Centre for International Business and Innovation (CIBI) and the Centre for Professional Personnel and Development (CPPD).
