SCIENCE undergraduates enjoy award-winning work placements while on their degree courses at MMU.
Sandwich course placements with the Environment Agency were judged 'runner up' out of 200 placement opportunities in the UK for budding scientists, at the National Council for Work Experience Awards 2008-09 held in London in March.
Heather Carter, a BSc (Hons) Physical Geography student, is currently undertaking her placement at the Environment Agency’s base in Warrington, Cheshire.
The 21-year-old, from Huddersfield, has been contributing to flood risk assessments at the Agency and working with contractors out in the field across the region.
"Each site visit is like a mini fieldtrip, showing me everything I have learnt in lectures in a real life situation.
"The job is helping with my understanding of my degree as well as giving me an invaluable insight into working life. Most importantly, working with the EA has given me more focus and helped me see the way to a good job in an environmental science field."
