A SEARCH is on for Manchester graduates with the X-Factor.
Manchester Masters, a competition to keep the best creative brains in the city, offers top graduates a life-changing career opportunity.
10 winners will get:
- four paid placements at leading PR, advertising, marketing and digital companies
- rent free city-centre accommodation
- free place on a Masters in business course
You don’t need a First but you do need a bucketful of creativity and drive!
The competition is open to final-year undergraduates at all universities in Greater Manchester who can apply by completing an online form. The top 50 applicants will then be invited to attend a two day assessment centre, including group workshops and one to one interviews.
The lucky finalists will have the opportunity to take part in four paid placements throughout the year, within a wide range of leading Manchester companies including JW Lees, Deloitte, flamedigital, amaze and Manchester United.
They will also undertake a Masters degree at MMU Business School, meaning each student will finish the programme having gained invaluable industry experience as well as achieving further educational excellence.
Last year 3 of the 10 winners were MMU students, with 5 from the University of Manchester and one from Salford University.
Door to a job
Sandy Lindsay, project director, said: "With the recession making it tough for graduates to find work, Manchester Masters offers a real opportunity for individuals to develop and tailor their skills to help them secure the top jobs in the region.
"By taking part in Manchester Masters, graduates gain practical experience and further their educational training, while also receiving mentoring from some of the most-respected professionals within the creative industry."
MMUBS student Fran Kohlisch, one of the lucky ten, said: "Many of the people I graduated with are struggling to get jobs, but I have opportunities to show four firms what I can do."
One of those firms was software development company Ravensoft, whose Head of Operations and Strategy Dr Chris Byrne said: "We were delighted to take part in the Manchester Masters.
"We wanted to work with someone who could think on their feet and who came into the company with lots of fresh ideas and Fran proved to be the ideal candidate."

The programme is the result of a collaboration between private businesses operating within Manchester’s creative sector and a range of public sector bodies including MMU, the Northwest Regional Development Agency, NESTA and Innovation Manchester.
