PROPERTY tycoon Chris Oglesby is to be honoured today (July 15) by Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.
The Chief Executive of commercial property giant Bruntwood will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration at the city's Bridgewater Hall.
MMU Vice-Chancellor Professor John Brooks said: "We recognise Chris for his distinguished achievements in business and his championing of the economic interests of Manchester and the region.
"Manchester is a very different city now than it was 20 years ago and Chris has played a major part in these changes. He has also contributed greatly to the community, particularly in supporting young people."
MMU Business School graduates 1,500 individuals in Business, Management, Marketing and PR, Accountancy and Finance, International Business, Human Resource Management, Enterprise, Retail, Sports Management and Business Information.
Chris, 43, went to Cheadle Hulme School, the London School of Economics and City University London, where he graduated with a degree in property valuation and finance.
He worked in the City of London before returning north, qualified as a chartered surveyor and set up Bruntwood's Manchester city centre office. He was appointed a director of the company in 1996 and chief executive at the end of 1999.
He sits on the boards of CityCo, the Piccadilly Partnership, City South (universities and hospitals) and the Irwell City Park, and is currently working on establishing a group for the Manchester's 'financial core'.
Chris is a founder member of Greater Manchester's Business Leadership Council and a Trustee of The Oglesby Charitable Trust which works with more than 40 community charities and is a board member of the youth charity Onside.
He is a strong advocate of continuing education, having been a member of the Academy of Chief Executives and completing a three-year management course at Harvard University.
He is also part-owner and director of Heathcotes Restaurants, a collection of 15 restaurants which source the very best local produce.
