MANCHESTER Masters - the competition for creative graduates - has now been opened up to universities all over the UK.
Never before has the North West been such a magnet for creative talent looking to progress their careers and after receiving a number of enquiries from students across the country - including Sheffield, Birmingham and London - the Manchester Masters board has agreed to roll out the successful model to attract even more high calibre applicants.
“There is a real buzz within the region’s creative sector right now,” explains Sandy Lindsay, project director for Manchester Masters and Tangerine PR’s group managing director. “With MediaCity opening in Salford, there are many new and exciting opportunities for able graduates.
"Opening up the Manchester Masters programme will help draw this talent to the North West, strengthening the region’s leading position on the media map in the process.”
Ten successful candidates will each have the opportunity to take part in four placements throughout the year, working in a PR, advertising, marketing, digital and other creative roles at leading Manchester companies.
In previous years, placement companies have included Pets at Home, Max Spielman and Soreen. The finalists will also undertake a fee free masters degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, meaning each student will finish the programme having gained invaluable industry experience and achieved further education excellence.
To recruit the ten finalists for the programme, the top 50 applicants, as selected by the programme’s board, will be invited to attend a two-day assessment centre, which will include workshops and one-to-one interviews. For candidates who make the final 50 shortlist, but not the final ten, Manchester Masters will hold a ‘matchmaking’ session where students will have the chance to get in front of top employers in the North West.
The deadline for the 2011/2 programme is 5pm on Monday 5th September 2011 and will commence in October 2011.
Students who have graduated, or are due to graduate, from any UK university in either 2010 or 2011 are able to apply. The programme is open to applicants from any degree course – both undergraduate and postgraduate.
Students are not required to live in Greater Manchester at the time of their application. However, candidates that make it on to the 2011/2 scheme are required to live in Greater Manchester for the duration of the programme.
