THE FORMER Chief Executive Officer of global advertising firm Saatchi and Saatchi was welcomed into the Business School to share his wealth of commercial insight.
Kevin Roberts revealed his fascinating life at the top of a host of distinguished multinational firms during a special guest lecture for post-graduate students.
Such talks form part of the post-graduate business programmes aimed at complementing students’ learning and further cementing the Business School’s reputation as a leading centre for world-class professionals.
Kevin, who recently became executive chairman of the advertising powerhouse, charted his career path from group marketing manager at Proctor and Gamble and regional vice president at Pepsi Cola to leading Saatchi and Saatchi in markets spanning the world.
Staying on top
During his lecture ‘Winning in the Age of Now’, he outlined what it took to keep modern companies ahead of the pack in an increasingly competitive commercial environment.
“All you need now is an idea,” he said. “We live in the age of idea – ideas are the currency of today. Ideas come from everywhere because we have all mastered the information age.
“Just get the idea out there and see how it goes. We can modify it as we go.”
Students from the Masters in Sport Directorship (MSD), Executive MBA and the suite of MSc programmes were all invited to the guest lecture to develop their expert commercial knowledge and leadership skills.
Dr Sara Ward, who leads the MSD, believes the value of high-profile speakers serves to both inspire and inform students.
She added: “We really appreciated Kevin’s contribution and challenge to think differently - which was especially relevant for our Sports Director delegates on this new and innovative programme.
“We particularly valued he was able to be with us at the start of what we hope will be an influential and game-changing programme for Sports Directors.”
