Accountant apprentice named best Manchester trainee

Published: 27th March 2015

AN MMU apprentice student has been named as the best up-and-coming accountant at a Manchester awards.

Trainee accountant Bethany Atkinson was handed the prize at The Manchester Society of Chartered Accountants (MSCA) ceremony for achieving top marks.

Bethany is currently a trainee account with Preston-based A.I Cherry Chartered Accountants and studies at university on day-release training to complement her on-the-job learning.

The apprenticeship course at MMU is designed for school leavers to work towards a BA (Hons) in Professional Accounting and ICAEW Chartered Accountancy - the industry benchmark ACA qualification.

Hands-on learning

She said: “I was really happy about the award and really much appreciated it. I have found the course to be really rewarding. Whilst working at the same time as learning, I can put the topics into practice.

“I started working at A.I Cherry immediately after college. I saw it advertised online and thought the training they were providing alongside MMU sounded perfect.”

Bethany still has two years at the University – by the end of next year, she will have completed her degree before continuing with the ICAEW's ACA chartered accountant qualification.

Ian Cherry, CEO of A.I Cherry, said: “Bethany has demonstrated that the MMU course which is designed for school leavers is an excellent method of studying for a Degree and Professional Accountancy qualification whilst engaged in full-time paid employment with a training office such as our own.”
