BUSINESS and IT graduate Renu Kapila has launched Bollywoodbay, an Asian version of e-bay.
www.bollywoodbay.co.uk blends the ancient traditions of the bazaar with the latest e-technology and is the first of its kind set up by an Asian person in the UK.
The 25-year-old entrepreneur got her idea when she was getting ready for a friend’s wedding. "I was surrounded by women in wonderful, colourful Indian attire and fascinated by the time, effort and planning that went into it.
"There can be three days of celebrations with a different outfit for each, but once it is over the clothes and accessories are put away and never brought out again.
"So I came up with internet auction place where Asians can buy and sell used and no-longer-wanted wares. Not just that but a site that can take some of the stress out of organising weddings and spending fortunes."
It also allows Asian businesses to register and create their own mini websites with Bollywoodbay, making it the UK’s first Asian shopping portal.
The site’s auction area – selling everything from from sarees and bindi to DVDs and furniture - is already live.
