Background
Qualifications
Jane has a BA (Hons) in History from Cambridge University, specialising in 20th century history and the rise of the superpowers, international relations, and the history of political thought. She also has an MA (Distinction) in Public Relations from Manchester Metropolitan University where her dissertation explored the strategic role of public relations in local government.
Jane recently gained a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University, with her thesis entitled: Personal contact networks and networking: the contribution to small firm success in the UK public relations sector. Her research offered a number of key contributions to knowledge including a Five Stage Networker Typology of practitioners in the public relations industry; a range of barriers that inhibit practitioners networking practices, especially barriers for female practitioners; and a model of male and female networking practice illustrating key gender differences and tensions in practitioners networking practices.

Commercial Background
Jane has 15 years commercial experience working in the public relations and communications industry. She has worked as a Public Relations practitioner at in-house, consultancy and freelance levels, in public and private sectors, and with national and international clients as diverse as housing, trading standards and legal services to automotive, healthcare and chemical industries. Jane has direct experience of account management and developing and implementing public relations and communications campaigns. She has been commercially responsible for developing public relations projects; campaign planning and media relations with regional and national press; press relations for local government elections; events management; exhibitions; copywriting and publication production; and web content development. Jane was also an Editor and Writer for the Plain English Campaign.
